Two Illinois Men Reach Donation Milestone, Become True Blood Brothers
This is an incredible story going back almost 40 years. It involves friends with the same name and the same goal. The plot twist is they did not know they were headed towards the same achievement. If you're looking for motivation in life at this moment you need to read this.
Donating blood is important if you're able to do so. Not everyone is able to do so but if you're someone who is cleared to do so you should at least attempt to donate. It's relatively painless and the "worst part" (the needle in your arm) only takes 6-7 minutes. By donating during your visit there's a chance you could save up to three lives. As a regular donor, I can tell you there's nothing like getting a call informing you of your blood was used to save a life.
Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC)
Recently, RRVBC hosted its annual Battle of the Badges blood driver, where donors are encouraged to donate on behalf of the Rockford Fire or Police Departments. Leading in 2022, both departments were tied at four "wins" each. At the end of this year's challenge, there were 276 donors which will help 828 people. The results were close but Rockford Police win the bragging rights, 140-136.
"Be like the Bills!"
Nope, that tagline has nothing to do with any sports team. It's all about donating blood to help others.
Leading up to July 13, 2022, lifelong friends Bill Hoff and Bill Whitcher were both approaching their 20-gallon donation. Prior to the actual donation, one of the Bills (Hoff) noticed his friend's name on the "milestone" list of donors. He talked to his buddy Bill (Whitcher) about it and they thought about challenging each other to who could get to 20 first. Ultimately, they decided to celebrate this incredible milestone together, side by side. You can read their full story here.
