Nearly everyone in our building that I hit with that question had a brand name that they just can't stand immediately pop into their head. Interestingly enough, not one of them named the brand that Illinoisans, according to a new study, hate more than all others.

I heard names like Walmart, Target, Amazon, and Starbucks. And while those places certainly have their detractors, none of them are the most hated brand name in our state.

The one that is...is just incredibly weird. At least it is to me. Let's see what you think.

A Review Website Used An Interesting Formula To Come Up With Their Findings

RaveReviews.org decided to take a look at the brand names not only Illinois hates, but the brands the United States and the entire world hate. To come up with their findings, they used Twitter, and the amount of negative tweets major brands got:

RAVE Reviews used the research tool SentiStrength to assess over a million brand-related tweets for positive or negative content. We calculated the hate rate (% of negative tweets) and ranked the brands by location and category to find the most hated brands in every country. Then we scraped each one’s mentions from Twitter and assessed which brands got the most hate.

That's right, Lego. For some unknown and completely screwed-up reason, a Danish toy company really seems to annoy us here in Illinois, with 56.45% of the tweets about Lego being negative. The biggest complaints about Lego from Illinoisans are missing pieces, price range, and yes...stepping on one barefoot in the middle of the night.

Frankly, this is embarrassing for the entire state. Luckily, we have enough other embarrassments in this state, mostly in elected office, that will take the spotlight off of this bit of state-wide muddled thinking.
