Police are looking into the "how" and "why" in an accidental shooting incident involving a 5-year-old child in Beloit.

Little information has been shared publically (as of this article) about an accidental shooting that occurred at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday night. According to the Beloit Police Department, a young child accidentally shot himself in the hand with a small caliber handgun.

The boy was transported to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injury.

Sarah Millard, Director of Strategic Communications, reports they are still investigating the situation as well as working with Child Protective Services in regards to the investigation.
