This is not an article slamming hunters or the hobby, this is about being mindful of the great circle of life. I don't hunt but I'm not a vegan so obviously, I support some sort of hunting, I suppose. And, I don't know if it is the millennial in me trying to make an appearance in my life or the older I get, but I'm beginning to feel more and more guilty of the inhumane way the animals I am eating are being killed in order to make it to my plate. Whatever the case may be, we need to be more aware of the problems we are causing on our planet, which is heavily due to pure laziness and lack of caring. A concerning article popped up this weekend validating the previous statement.

Lead Ammunition Killing Bald Eagles in Illinois?

NPR at Illinois State University reported a story out of Kewanee, Illinois, where a wildlife rescue and rehab facility are stressing the importance of hunters discarding animal remains appropriately. The concern is the damage specifically related to certain ammunition poisoning animals who feed on the remainder of whatever it is that has been killed through the use of bullets. They want hunters to be aware of the harm discarded lead ammo has on nature.

Sometimes when that lead goes in it will bounce off the bone and it will shatter, and go into the internal organs... That field dress then contains the lead fragments from the ammunition, and that's what's basically killing our bald eagles.

Having already been on the endangered species list in the past, Hog Capital Wildlife Rescue and Rehab says two-thirds of these Bald Eagles are dying because of lead poisoning.

This is a great reminder to be mindful of the ammunition being used for hunting.
