
Rockford Police Nab Teen Thieves After High-Speed Chase
Late Friday night (8/16), Rockford Police SCOPE officers took a big step in solving a stolen vehicle case.
According to the press release from the Rockford Police Department, at approximately 11:25 p.m. on August 16, 2024, officers spotted a stolen car near Ridge and Crestwood.

Four individuals exited the vehicle as they attempted to make a traffic stop. One of the suspects was swiftly apprehended, while the remaining three re-entered the car and sped away.
Dramatic Chase Ends in Arrest
The pursuit continued as SCOPE officers tracked the vehicle to Garfield and Winnebago.
The suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot. After a brief struggle, officers succeeded in arresting the driver, a 15-year-old male. The other two suspects managed to escape, though their whereabouts remain unknown.

Following a review by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, charges have been filed against the teens.
Teens Facing Multiple Charges, Years in Jail
The 15-year-old driver faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen auto, aggravated fleeing, resisting arrest, and an outstanding warrant. Additionally, a 14-year-old male has been charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle.
According to the Rockford Police Department, these charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
