Applesauce Spill Shuts Down Part of Illinois Highway

Part of an Illinois highway was closed earlier this week due to an overturned semi that had spilled 46,000 pounds of applesauce.

According to KFVS, the Illinois State Police report that the incident occurred very early in the morning in Franklin County on Interstate 57 at mile marker 76.

They said no injuries were reported in the single-vehicle crash; however, applesauce did spill onto the road.

What Would You Do With 46,000 Pounds of Applesauce?

I mean, I like applesauce, but this is pushing it. That's all to say, if I were given an extra 46,000 pounds of applesauce, I'd need some great things to pair the applesauce with, so here you go:

1. Pork Chops (the runaway #1 forever and always)

2. Potato Pancakes

3. Roast Chicken

4. Pork Tenderloin

5. Grilled Bratwurst

6. Cottage Cheese

7. Pancakes

8. Oatmeal

9. Ice Cream

10. Yogurt

I'm not listing it, but some folks think applesauce paired with certain cheeses, like sharp cheddar, is so good. Others believe barbecue pulled pork with applesauce is to die for, too. You can miss me with both.

Cleanup After the Applesauce Chaos

Regarding the spilled applesauce on the interstate, that massive amount is nearly the equivalent of 200,000 4-ounce applesauce containers. State Troopers say the lanes were closed for about four hours to clean the applesauce mess.

No word on whether someone ran out to get some pork chops.
