When it comes to things like cyber attacks and identity theft, I feel like a majority of the population has the mindset of, "oh, it will never happen to me." I can say that because I was that person, until a little over a year ago.

I had my identity stolen by someone you'd least expect to steal it- my ex-husband and his girlfriend. Since finding out, I have to monitor my credit on a regular basis and it's a complete nightmare. I can't buy or rent a new home, I can't help my son fund his education and that's just the half of it.

I'm sharing this with you because I want you to protect yourself and your credit; now more than ever you'll need to keep an eye on your credit cards, bank accounts, and credit reports, all thanks to a massive security breach at Equifax.

According to WIFR, 143 million Americans social security numbers and other personal data like birth dates, and even addresses have been exposed in a cybersecurity attack that was carried out by suspected criminal hackers; that's almost half the U.S. population.
