It's no secret that Illinois is a hot mess right now. A lot of Illinoisans are ready to pick up and leave, but it turns out a move outside the state's borders may not be necessary for an enriched life.

MONEY Magazine recently partnered with realtor.com to create their 2017 list of the Top 100 Places to Live In America. I'm not one to bail on my home state, but I will say this; I was mighty surprised to see that any Illinois places made the list, let alone four of them. In fact, one village in Illinois even cracked the top 10!

Sure, the cost of living in these 4 cities may be more than it is in Rockford, but what they have to offer makes it worth it. At least that's what the experts say.

MONEY ranked the cities based on the state of their local economies, home prices and quality of life. Here's the 4 places in Illinois that made the list, and the numbers they ranked on the list:

     #9   - Schaumburg, Illinois

     #27 - Wheaton, Illinois

     #28 - Villa Park, Illinois

     #35 - Des Plaines, Illinois

Four showings in the top 50? Way to go Illinois!

Just in case you're curious, a Midwest city was named the best place to live in America, and the big winner was....Fishers, Indiana! To see the complete top 100 list, go here.
