14 Unconventional and Simple Games Only Illinois Residents Will Understand
Illinois has its own characteristics and uniqueness. In a sense, Illinois is its own breed.
Many Illinois "things" can easily be turned into a competitive game.
Here are a few examples of games all Illinoisans can play no matter where they are in the state.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
POTHOLES OBSTACLE COURSE
Drivers with a lot of driving experience in Illinois will probably be good at this game.
AM I ON THE ROAD?
The further north you go into Illinois the more snow you'll likely encounter. After a fresh snowfall, it can either be fun to play this game or incredibly terrifying. It depends on who you as.
NAME THAT PARK
When you're driving around Illinois and notice a park (which there are plenty of) try to guess the name of the park before reading the sign.
STRIP MALL OR CHURCH
Drive past a strip mall and try to decide if it's full of business or it is solely a church, maybe even both.
SPOT THE SLOTS
Try to guess how many slot places you will pass within a 20-minute drive.
ONE-WAY RUNWAY
This is a fun game. If you turn the wrong way onto a one-way and there isn't oncoming traffic, see how quickly you can make it to the next driveway to intersecting street to turn around.
DMV TIME TRIALS
Illinoisans know how long one could wait at the DMV. Make a game out of how quickly you can get in and out.
CONSTRUCTION DESTRUCTION
This is the game of not damaging your car when you hit one of those "bumps" (which is labeled with a sign) but it actually a 4 or 5-inch curb and not a "bump" at all.
GUESS THE WEATHER
Sure, we can see the weather on our phones but if you live in Illinois you should be aware of how quickly it can change. See if you can go a whole week guessing the weather correctly every day.
BEAT THE PUCK
This involves a Rockford IceHogs (or any professional hockey) game. The goal is to wait for the puck to stop and race out of your seat and to the concourse before an usher raises the "Stop, Puck in Play" sign. If you get stuck going in or out you lose a point.
DOGGIE GRENADES
When the leaves fall there is a fun game to play. You know there could be dog poo under the leaves but you aren't sure where. Good luck.
GUNSHOTS OR FIREWORKS
This is an especially fun game to play around the 4th of July. Need help playing the game? Just hop on your neighborhood's Facebook group or the NextDoor app.
HOW LONG CAN YOU HOLD IT?
Truthfully, I'm not a fan of this game. If you have to go and you start seeing traffic building up on I-90... it can get not-so-fun in a hurry.
WRECK IT ROUNDABOUT
Despite roundabouts becoming more and more common in Illinois, some people just can not grasp the concept of how to navigate through them.
