For many people, the day after Christmas marks the first day to take down your holiday decorations, including that real Christmas tree. Now it's time to recycle it!In the Rockford area, there are 13 convenient recycling locations to recycle your Christmas tree according to Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful. Six locations in Rockford alone.

Christmas tree recycling will take place from Jan 1- Jan 15, 2019.

Before you do it is important to remember to remove all decorations, tinsel and light from the tree.

  • Levings Lake at South Johnston Ave. entrance at Montague (east entrance)
  • Crimson Ridge on Perryville Rd
  • Gambino Park at 4421 Pepper Drive
  • Alpine Park at 950 South Alpine


  • Pecatonica: Pecatonica Wetlands Forest Preserve at 4550 North Pecatonica Road
  • Cherry Valley : Baumann Park at 300 South Walnut in Cherry Valley
  • Roscoe: Valley View Farm at 6440 Belvidere Road
  • Rockton Boat Ramp Parking Lot at 830 E Main
  • Rockton: Williams Tree Farm at 4661 Yale Bridge Road
  • Davis, IL:  Davis Village Hall
  • Loves Park : Martin Park at 5600 Park Ridge Road

Very important, do NOT recycle your Christmas wreaths. Wreaths can be accepted because they held together with a wire frame which will destroy the mulching machines.

Beginning on January 15th Christmas trees are recycled into mulch produced which in turn in provided for free for area residents.
