On Tuesday night the Rockford Public Schools Board voted to allow a temporary, mass COVID-19 vaccination site to be set up at Ellis Elementary School this Sunday, March 14, 2021.

According to mystateline.com, one thousand Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines will be administered by the Winnebago County Health Department and Walgreens this Sunday at Ellis Elementary School, but this will not be a walk-in clinic. Community members need to pre-register and have been contacted with an appointment for Sunday to get the vaccine at Ellis.

Dr. Sandra Martell of the Winnebago County Health Department told mystateline.com;

We are working very hard to make sure that we are pulling in our high-risk zip codes.

In a recent Facebook post, Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara said;

We know we need more vaccinations in our county, and we know at-risk populations and black and brown residents are getting vaccinated at a lower rate than others. Outreach events like this will help ensure an equitable distribution of vaccines.

Dr. Martell has also said that the Winnebago County Health Department is working to set up a permanent vaccination site on the West Side of Rockford that would be supported in part by the Illinois National Guard.

If you want to get the COVID-19 vaccine and you have not registered with the Winnebago County Health Department yet, please do so now, here.

If you have already registered and are still impatiently waiting the call, Dr. Martell suggests signing up for appointments with as many providers as possible, and to stay persistent in doing it.
