This past weekend, a veterans memorial site in New Lenox was vandalized Saturday night.

The damage left several stones broken or toppled. The VFW group posted a number of photos of the damage online. One stone with a U.S. Marine Corps emblem can be seen fallen over and cracked into pieces.

The memorial site is located in the Village Commons area near Village Hall at 1 Veterans Parkway. New Lenox police found the damage Saturday night and they are investigating.

On Sunday, the following announcement was made on the VFW Post 9545 Facebook Page.

 

Last night, someone vandalized the New Lenox Veterans Memorial causing considerable damage to the monuments. Any info would be greatly appreciated. When we have it completely restored we will re-dedicate it and you are all invited.Thank you for your support and thoughtfulness.

The VFW has  received many offers from people wanting to help the restore the Memorial.

The memorial site is located in the Village Commons area near Village Hall on 1 Veterans Parkway.

VFW Post 9545 quartermaster told the Herald News:

“It’s disgusting someone would go there and take so much effort to push these stones over and break them … it took a lot of effort to topple these stones. To show that much disrespect to the veterans? It’s terrible.”
