So how did Wallethub complete this survey?

To determine the best and cheapest places for a plant-based diet, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 16 key indicators of vegan- and vegetarian-friendliness. We examined each city based on such metrics as the cost of groceries for vegetarians, the share of restaurants serving meatless options and salad shops per capita.

I've had vegetarian friends who have had to stick to ordering a side salad and fries because a lot of restaurants used to not have many vegetarian options. However, in 2021, there are SO many new plant-based options out there.

Good news for vegetarians in Illinois, one of the best cities to be veg in is right here in Illinois.

Out of the list of 100 cities, Chicago ranked at #18.

What city scored the top spot?

Portland, OR. Honestly, when I think about Portland, I just assume the majority of people out there are vegetarians. And apparently, there are PLENTY of veggie options out there.

Milwaukee, WI also made the list. They ranked right around the middle of the list coming in at #48. So next time you're visiting one of these big Midwest cities, just know the vegetarian options will be plentiful.
