As a newbie to the Rockford area, I would love to get to know some of the history of the Forest City. Now, that maybe easier for me.

WREX TV talked to the President of the Midway Village Museum, David Byrnes. He is leading the way to give people a better understanding of the history of some landmarks in the downtown Rockford area.

The museum is going to create twenty plaques for different locations downtown. They will show the history behind the landmark. According to Brynes, it is not just about the structure, but the people of Rockford.

"There's been an enormous number of people from different walks of life, different paths that they were pursuing that have impacted the history of our community."

The project is being funded by a grant that was received by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. It was $30,000 that the museum received.

If all goes as planned, the plaques will be installed by December. I am really looking forward to getting to know my new hometown.
