Illinois Construction Projects Happening Summer of 2017
Construction in Illinois is a story that never ends, especially in the summer. Get ready to start searching for detours.
Just when you might think interstate construction around northern Illinois is slowing down you remember you live in Illinois and there will always be construction. This summer will be like the rest and offer lots of options for jammed traffic and 45 m.p.h. speed zones along the busiest roadways.
Two routes many Rockfordians travel along are I-90 and I-88 and both will be loaded with construction, according to Illinois Tollway.
1. I-88 between Dixon and Rockfalls.
In 2017, the Illinois Tollway will complete resurfacing of 11 miles of the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), between U.S. Route 52 and U.S. Route 30 in Rock Falls, to provide a smoother riding surface for the traveling public.
In addition, two mainline bridges over an abandoned railroad track near Dixon will be removed and the roadway reconstructed. Work is scheduled to begin this spring and be complete by the end of this year. (Illinois Tollway)
2. I-90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) between Rockford and downtown Chicago.
In 2017, the Illinois Tollway will launch the new I-90 SmartRoad between Barrington Road and the Kennedy Expressway and complete interchange and local road improvements as part of the $2.5 billion Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Rebuilding and Widening Project. Construction also includes reconstruction of the Illinois Route 23 Bridge in Marengo and repairs on local crossroad bridges and ramps on the far west end of the I-90 corridor. (Illinois Tollway)
That's not the only projects around Illinois, there's a bunch.
