Illinois state officials are urging motorists to gear up for winter with a great new campaign. The "Winter Weather - Get it Together" campaign is backed by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and the Tollway. Here's the point of the message.

In an effort to get the word out about safe winter weather driving in Illinois, officials are creating a neat campaign slogan "Get It Together Illinois. The message is to wear a seat belt, slow down, and putting down the hand-held device while driving.

According to WREX 13, officials suggest "avoid using cruise control in snow and ice, give snowplows a wide berth, and use extra caution on potentially icy intersections, ramps, and bridges".

It also a great idea to always carry an emergency car-care kit with jumper cables, flares, blankets and non-perishable food. I have those in my car throughout the year.

Other tips in the message include reminding motorists to be sure to move over for stopped emergency vehicles, carry a cellphone and charger, and stay home in bad weather unless absolutely necessary.

Welcome to another Winter in Illinois.
