The summer months are finally here, and many Rockford area families are looking for fun camps and activities to keep their children busy.

Luckily there are several options available for area parents. Here are five summer camps available in and around Rockford.

Camp Vertical Extreme at Rockford Christian High School, 1401 N. Bell School Road, in Rockford is a nonprofit day camp for ages 4 to 15 to meets 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Aug. 1. Campers can enjoy activities based on weekly themes. Field trips to pools and other entertainment venues will be available three days each week. Registration fees depend on family size. Camp Winnebago (YMCA), 5804 N. Main St., in Rockford is a summer day-camp that includes such activities as archery, canoeing and teamwork exercises. Camp Winnebago also offers different camp programs suited to your child's age and interests. Most camp activities begin June 9. Registration fees vary by each program. Rockford Park District offers various camps and sports programs throughout the summer. The park district also teams up with the Burpee Museum of Natural History, Discovery Center, Midway Village Museum, Rockford Dance Company, Rockford Symphony Orchestra and the Neighborhood Centers Alliance to offer Partner Camps. SUMMIT Discover Day Camp at Rockford University, 5050 E. State St., in Rockford offers a week of activities July 7-11 to children entering first through sixth grades. Activities are promised to "stimulate your child's curiosity and sharpen investigative talents." Morning, afternoon and full-day camps are available.
