Its hard to believe that this Saturday will mark the one year anniversary of that horrific EF-4 tornado that decimated Fairdale.

The town is holding a very special ceremony that day and invite all to attend.

According to DeKalb County Online the Fairdale community will be holding a ceremony to commorate the year anniversary, plus hold a sort of celebration for the new life that has developed from the rubble of the quiet town.

The schedule of events starts the day with a special breakfast brunch for the first responders (on that fateful day) and for the residents Fairdale from 10:30 to 12:30.

At 12:30 the event is open to the public starting with a ground breaking of a new home being built by Habitat of Humanity.Followed by a memorial bench and plaque dedication and then addresses by dignitaries for the day, with a time to fly kites and more afterward.

Wow! I can remember that evening like it was yesterday as I live only three miles from Fairdale and I was cowering in my basement as that freight train literally missed my town by less than a mile and careened into Fairdale.

Although it was scary and heartbreaking it's is so encouraging to see all of the good that has come from this tragedy and holding a celebration of a sort is a great way for the community to move on.
