I think it's safe to say the flu is plaguing Rockford right now. It seems like everyone is sick, and once they recover from one case of the yucks, they can get slammed with another version of it. No bueno.

Our local hospitals currently have visitor restrictions in place to prevent the continued spread of the flu virus, but the best weapon in anyone's arsenal to prevent getting the flu is getting a flu shot.

If you're like me and thinking, "great, I didn't get a flu shot this year so I'm screwed", medical experts say it's not too late. Whew!

According to WGN, Dr. Tina Tan of Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital says to get your flu shot NOW.

It’s still effective and it’s effective against a major strain of the organism that’s circulating, H3N2 organism influenza a so individuals who have not been vaccinated need to get vaccinated and continue to get vaccinated,” she said.

It takes about 2 weeks for the immunization to take full effect in your body, so at this point time is of the essence. If your doctor is hard to get in to quickly, don't forget that places like Walgreens, CVS, etc. have walk-in clinics that can do the shot for you right then.

Stay healthy, my friends!
