There is a new agreement between the UAW and Fiat/Chrysler as part of a $5.2 billion investment in U.S. plants.  However, it may be a case of good news/bad news for the plant here in Belvidere.

According to WTVO/WQRF TV, the good news is that production of the Jeep Cherokee SUV is being shifted to Belvidere.  The Cherokee is Jeep's most popular vehicle and ensures production will continue.

But sources indicate that Fiat/Chrysler is also moving all car production to Mexico while keeping truck and SUV production in the U.S.  That would mean the loss of Dodge Dart production on top of the phasing out of Jeep Patriot and Compass SUV production in 2016 in Belvidere.
