As northern Illinois prepares for its first winter storm of 2020, Rockford officials have issued a snow emergency.

Ahead of the potentially big winter storm headed toward our region of the midwest, the City of Rockford has announced a Snow Emergency beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, January 10.

A Snow Emergency requires that vehicles be parked on the odd side of the street when the date ends in an odd number and on the even side of the street when the date ends on an even number. City streets will be plowed as efficiently as possible with an emphasis on keeping primary routes passable.

City officials and local meteorologists are recommending residents stay home and indoors during this winter event unless there's an absolute emergency.
