After 23 years on the job as Belvidere's top cop, Police Chief Jan Noble has announced he is retiring.

Belvidere police chief Jan Noble is retiring after serving the people of Belvidere for 23 years. Prior to serving as chief, Noble also served in law enforcement as a deputy with the Boone County Sheriff's dept, Cherry Valley Police and as a officer with Poplar Grove Police dept.

The mission statement of the Belvidere Police department under Noble's leadership is

to provide a safe living, learning, and working environment to all citizens and visitors to City of Belvidere.

 According to WIFR-TV:

The Belvidere Police Department says Noble is the longest-serving police chief in Illinois with 38 years of continuous service.

So what happens next? Chief Noble will be taking an unspecified job with State of Illinois.

Chief Noble was sworn in as Belvidere police Chief in 1995.
