Seven Rockford businesses were recently cited for selling tobacco products to minors during a compliance check conducted by the Rockford Police Department and the Winnebago County Health Department.

According to a police department press release, 24 businesses were checked in Rockford on March 31. Those charged were Cigarettes and More Store, 3816 Auburn St.; Phillip 66, 3135 N. Rockton Ave.; Mobil Gas Station, 1132 Harrison Ave.; Sara Mini Mart, 828 Broadway St.; Discount Cigarettes and Pop Plus, 321 Seventh St.; S & H Tobacco, 2744 11th St.; and Olivo’s Market, 301 Seventh St.

During the checks, revenue from the Winnebago County Health Department and minors employed by the Winnebago County Health Department were utilized to make controlled purchases of tobacco products from area businesses.
