This Wisconsin Spot Serves Butter Burgers So Famous They Made a National List
Every time I see Solly's Grille in Milwaukee pop up on one of these national "best burger" lists, I feel like fate is telling me to figure it out. Like, hey man, stop dragging your feet and get a Butter Burger already.
The History of Solly’s Grille

What Makes a Butter Burger Special
They cook sirloin patties in butter, then top that sucker off with even more butter before dropping that bad boy on a bun. Here's the deal: if you're the type to blot grease off a slice of pizza, this might not be the place for you.
The classic order is the Butter Burger with stewed onions, but they also offer versions with bacon, mushrooms, or jalapeños for those who want to get adventurous. Sounds messy? It looks that way, so you'd better make sure you're armed with napkins.
National Recognition for 2025
To go along with their legendary Butter Burgers, LoveFood just ranked Solly's as their number two most historic American burger joint for 2025. I'm no mathematician, but that is nearly 90 years of doing things right while still managing to end up neck and neck with the country's best burger joints.
