Snowboarding, tobogganing and tubing are coming to Alpine Hills this winter, a full year ahead of schedule.

The Rockford Register Star reports that nearly $961,000 in private donations have already come in to the Rockford Park District Foundation to help bring the winter activities to Alpine Hills Adventure Park & Golf Center. The foundation hopes to raise the additional $210,000 needed by fall.

Since the bulk of the funds needed for the project have come in, the district is able to begin the infrastructure work needed to operate the snow park this winter. The park will include rental boards and tubes, safety gear, groomers, terrain features for snowboarding, surface lifts and even a snowmaking system.

They’re projecting to open by late November or early December.
