If you've ever watched Law & Order, CSI, Criminal Minds or any kind of legal drama, you've probably heard this line before, "It's a story ripped straight from the headlines."

Well, that's what this is, except it's more like a story ripped straight from a children's book, and movie, which just happens to be very popular this time of year- "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

It's a story of a real life Grinch who lived in or near Rockford, had a heart that was ten times too small and for whatever reason, hates Christmas. The difference between this Grinch and the one you read about in a beloved Dr. Suess book, is that this Grinch is a criminal.

According to Barb Chidley, a Rockford teacher and a member of the Community Action Agency advisory board, a local teacher was a victim of a home invasion earlier this week and had all his or her gifts stolen, including gifts they were storing for children in need at Beyer Elementary. she shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook.

While the news release to parents and staff says that they're accepting donations through today, they will continue to accept more through midday Friday at either Beyer or Marshall Elementary.

Just like the book, this story can have a happy ending too; we just need your help. Thank you in advance and happy holidays.
