Perhaps the biggest news to happen in the Rockford region is the potential (and seemingly likely) closure of Bryon's Nuclear plant.

This would be a devastating blow of the Rock River Valley as not only would more than 700 jobs be directly affected, but so would schools, fire, police, and other services.

Schools, fire, police, and other services will be directly impacted by the closure of both plants due to the $63 million in taxes they both pay out yearly. - Q985online.com

The closure is expected to take place in September of 2021 and will also affect the Dresden plant, eliminating 3,500 jobs in total. That's some serious devastation. Though the closure is all but set in stone, community leaders are collaborating to make sure residents' concerns are presented to government officials including Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker.

There is also an online petition circulating the 8-1-5 with a goal of 10,000 signatures. In just four days the petition has been signed by 9,500 people as of this writing and continues to grow.

On Thursday Aug.27th employees at Byron and Dresden Nuclear power plants were abruptly notified that without changes to Illinois law they would be closing as of September and November of 2021. The closure of both Byron and Dresden will have a devastating impact on the state itself along with 1000’s of Families, local Businesses, and surrounding areas. Each plant employs over 1600 people, directly and indirectly. Governor J.B. Pritzker has the power to save our plants, our jobs and our communities.
