Chicago seems to be, at least to me, a city that inspires very few middle-of-the-road feelings. What I mean by that is simply that people either seem to love or loathe the place. It just depends on who you talk to.

So, where do you fall on the topic of Chicago? If you're anything like the folks responsible for the new study that gives Chicago the number-two spot on a list of the best cities in the world, you're definitely a Chicago lover.

Before Telling You Why Chicago Got Such A High Rating, Let's Make Fun Of The City First

I was talking to an out-of-state friend last night, and I brought this topic up to him. I asked if he agreed with such a high rating, and he most definitely did not. "Yeah, it's great if you want to freeze your butt off...or have it shot off!" was his quick and hot take.

He did confess to loving jokes that come at Chicago's expense, and really loves the ones that rip on Chicago sports fans. Being that I was unaware of these jokes (for the most part), I asked for examples:

  • I just ordered a Chicago style pizza. It started shooting as soon I opened the box.
  • What’s the difference between a Chicago Bears fan and Marty McFly? Eventually, Marty McFly stopped going back to 1985.
  • What’s the difference between Green Bay and Chicago? In Chicago, Moosehead is a type of beer and in Green Bay, it’s a felony.

According To A Poll Of 20,000 People Who Live In Cities, Here's Why Chicago Got The #2 Ranking

The 2022 TimeOut Index gives Chicago such high marks for nightlife, food and drink, arts and culture, along with affordability, walkability, public transportation, and more:

"Whether you want to try world-class dining, party until 4am at historic clubs, spend a day soaking up the sun along Lake Michigan, see iconic artworks or just wander among different neighborhoods, there’s never a dull moment to be had (yes, even when winter rolls around)."

So, who takes the number-one spot for best city in the world?

Edinburgh, Scotland.
