There is news of a birth at The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Here is the latest addition.

The Chicago Shedd Aquarium is as proud as a brand new parent. They are happy to announce the birth of a Pacific white-sided dolphin. Mom 'Piquet' (pee-KEHT) gave birth early Monday with officials standing by.

Shedd officials say both the mother and calf are doing well and will remain under 24-hour observation by marine mammal and animal health teams.

According to The Shedd Aquarium, the baby dolphin calf weighs about 28 pounds and is approximately 3 feet long.

Don't rush to see the happy family just yet. Shedd Aquarium officials say Piquet and her calf will be temporarily be off exhibit and in private quarters as the two learn how to bond and the new calf learns how to nurse with its mother.

Congratulations to The Shedd Aquarium team.
