To help the out of work road crew, Live Nation has set-up up a relief fund called Crew Nation.

My Dad took me to my first concert. It was Ozzy and Motley Crue in the spring of 1984 at the Rosemont Horizon. That night I was hooked. Since then, I've been to hundreds of shows. It's definitely my favorite hobby.

It wouldn't be until years later that I realized all that went into putting on a live music event. Working in radio has given me the background of what it takes for a band to hit the stage for their fans. There are many people behind the scenes that make it all possible. A big part of that process is the Road Crew.

I would dare to say the "Roadies" are the most important element of the concert. Without them, the show doesn't go on. They travel through night and arrive early morning to start setting up on very little sleep. The crew puts up the stage, lighting, sound, and instruments. There's soundcheck, getting the backstage area ready, and tearing down when it's over. Then it starts all over again for many days, weeks, months, and sometimes even years.

The professional "Roadies" are always working hard. Many sacrifice a lot by being constantly on the road. Though, the local crews that don't travel are also very vital in assuring the final product comes off without a hitch.

I've been lucky enough to witness both the set-up and tear down of a concert. It's an amazing thing to watch.

Unfortunately, with COVID-19, all shows and tours are currently stopped. No one knows for how long. Just like the bands themselves, the crews are losing money by staying home. There's no income coming in to pay the bills.

Luckily, the concert promoter, Live Nation, has stepped to support them. They've started the "Crew Nation" fund. You can help out by making a donation. Live Nation will match dollar-for-dollar up to $10 million dollars. Plus, they're selling special gear for the cause. The items are very cool.

By the way, I know a lot of people in the Rockford area that work as Road Crew for a career.

If you enjoy going to concerts, this is a cause I think you could get behind.
