Who are you and what is wrong with your thinking? Nobody wants to sit by the door handing out candy or go trick-or-treating on a Monday night.

If you are the person that MUST do Trick-or-Treating on Halloween night only, this message is for you. Do you not remember the mood most people are in on Mondays? Nobody wants to play 'candy police' on a Monday. We most definitely don't want the fight a costumed, 4-foot, sugar-buzzed human is going to put when we say it's shower and bed time, because they have school ion the morning. Where's the fun in any of that?

Why Does Trick-or-Treating Need to Happen on Halloween Night?

I just entered the above line, word-for-word, into Google and this is how my question was answered:

The custom of trick-or-treating on Halloween may come from the belief that supernatural beings, or the souls of the dead, roamed the earth at this time and needed to be appeased.

As it turns out, I don't believe any of that garbage. The custom of trick-or-treating is me and my wife walking our littles around the neighborhood to get as much candy as possible. Once we get back home, the rest of the night usually plays out with checking out the stash, trading stories about the funny things that happened while we were out, eating a bunch of that candy, then getting them in the shower, then to bed so they're rested for school the next day.

Enough of that nonsense. First, it's a candy holiday, so sending them to bed even after just eating a few pieces is a challenge, and I'm over wanting to enforce it. After all that excitement of seeing friends while walking up and down every street in the neighborhood, nobody wants to rush through the rest of the night when we get home.

Monday is NOT an Ideal Trick-or-Treat Night

In 2022, Halloween falls on a Monday night, so backing up trick-or-treating is not that drastic of a move. There are a couple communities in the area that have already switched to the Saturday before Halloween, is there a good reason why every community can't do trick-or-treating on the Saturday night before Halloween?

This is really just an issue of fun preservation. Halloween is a fun holiday and going to bed early is not fun, for the kids or parents. Any other night, I'm all for a 'normal' bedtime, but on this night we want to eat candy, laugh and maybe watch a movie with a few kid-friendly scares in it and stay up late, with NO SCHOOL and NO WORK the next day.

In just over 6 months, we can have this same conversation about fireworks.
