5 Things You Must Do During The Illinois Solar Eclipse

Of all my 26 years of being on this Earth, I have never seen a solar eclipse let alone a total solar eclipse. You'd think by now I would've seen at least one considering they happen roughly every 18 months.
"There are between two and five solar eclipses each year with a total eclipse taking place every 18 months or so. Total solar eclipses are seen every 400 years from any one place on the surface of the Earth."[rmg]
What's The Difference Between A Solar Eclipse And Total Solar Eclipse?
Feels like we're in Science class all over again! I wanted to know the difference and you're probably wondering the exact same thing. Let's find out together!
A Solar Eclipse happens when the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up either fully OR partially. Either way, we get to see a completely different view of the Sun or the Moon.
A Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, which completely blocks the face of the Sun. So, if you're standing in the center of the Moon's shadow when it hits Earth... you'll get to experience a Total Eclipse!
What's even cooler? The sky will darken even if it's 100% daylight outside.

Enough of that - let me share what you SHOULD do during this natural phenomenon.
According to Illinois.Gov, these are the 5 things you should do.
• Avoid parking on the side of the road or on the entrance and exit ramps to roadside safety rest areas.
• Be cautious. There will be a large number of pedestrians near roads.
• Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
• Make sure you have a charged cell phone, a full tank of gas and bottled water.
• Plan to arrive early, stay put and leave late. That way everyone won’t leave at the same time.
