Clearly, you know there's a recycling program for electronics in Illinois.  There's an important part of the program that you should definitely know!

After your computers, televisions, monitors, and printers all go out-of-date, what do you do with them?  Do you put them in storage or throw them out?  You might question where you can properly dispose of your electronics that just take up too much space now that you have brand new stuff!

What I didn't know is that it's illegal to throw away a bunch of different electronics in Illinois.  Here's what is covered under the Recycling Program:

  • Computers and Small-Scale Servers
  • Computer Monitors
  • Electronic Keyboards & Mice
  • Printers, Fax Machines, and Scanners
  • Televisions
  • DVD Players, DVD Recorders, and VCRs
  • Digital Converter Boxes, Cable Receivers, and Satellite Receivers
  • Portable Digital Music Players and Video Game Consoles

You can actually find the map of where you can drop off all your old electronics at here.  It's super helpful if you're looking to get rid of huge, bulky items like box televisions and fax machines!

I've never actually had to throw any of my electronics out because my dad loves to keep them in storage for when they're "worth something someday", so I never knew the process of getting rid of electronics in Illinois.

If you've been wondering what you can and can't throw away in the trash in the good ol' state of Illinois, I hope this helps a little bit!  This might save you from getting fined big time, too.  I've never heard of someone getting fined for disposing of their electronics in the trash, but you never know!
