These Gas Station Tacos Are the Best in Illinois

Today is National Taco Day, and it wouldn't make sense not to highlight what's been dubbed the best tacos in Illinois.

While Taco Day was originally set for October 4, the folks at Taco Bell pushed to move National Taco Day to the first Tuesday in October every year because, you guessed it, Taco Tuesday.

You can hit up your fave Taco Bell today and celebrate while saving a few bucks. You can also find the best place to have a taco in Illinois.

Yelp compiled a list of the best taco joints in every state for 2024, and Illinois' spot is at a gas station.

It's not that there's anything wrong with it. I have had gas station barbecue in Kansas City and Rockford, and it's some of the finest I have ever eaten.

The same could be said about El Tragon Taqueria, which took the top spot as Illinois' best place for tacos.

Yelp says they have a "compact" menu and a "juicy" al pastor, a "moist and tender" birria, and an " absolute killer" veggie offering loaded with mushrooms, avocados, and peppers.

Some positive reviews call their tacos the "best I've had in a long time."

Another said, "I never thought a taco spot inside a gas station plaza would slap this hard."

Even when people have issues ordering online, as Marat K. said, El Tragon employees are "very nice and gracious and helping me out."

This sounds like the preeminent spot to celebrate National Taco Day, regardless of what day of the month it's officially held on.
