Wisconsin-Based Kwik Trip Expanding Reach with Second Distribution Center
Did you know that around 80% of the products sold by Kwik Trip are sourced from their headquarters in La Crosse, Wisconsin?
At their La Crosse facility, Kwik Trip manufactures a wide range of items including baked goods, sandwiches, pizza, ice cream, and milk, which are then delivered fresh to each store every day. That building is also home to the famous banana ripening rooms with each holding over 41,000 pounds of bananas!
How Many Kwik Trips Are There?
With over 900 locations and counting, Kwik Trip continues to expand, primarily in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.
According to a Kwik Trip representative, they prioritize proximity to their La Crosse headquarters when opening new stores, ensuring efficient daily shipments to each location.
This dedication to quality played a significant role in their recent recognition as the top convenience store chain in America.
Each year, USA Today asks its readers to vote on a variety of lifestyle and travel topics. Then the annual reader's choice awards are published after the votes are counted. Kwik Trip received the most votes in the gas station category.
Kwik Trip Planning Second Distribution Center
Kwik Trip has announced stores in South Dakota which made me think they'd target western Minnesota for a second production facility, but that's not the case.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the convenience chain bought "151 acres of empty farmland in the village of DeForest in northern Dane County for $14.1 million"
DeForest is about 30 minutes north of Madison.
Their report says "a satellite distribution center and fleet services center" will be built and used to serve stores in Southern Wisconsin. I'm assuming this could help them add new stores in Illinois too.
