Record “On This Day” Temperatures Broken From Illinois Heat Wave
Let's face it. It was stinking hot yesterday.
Thanks to all of that corn sweat and hot temperatures in the area, we've been dealing with a heat wave to kick off the week. Although we didn't break the record for the hottest recorded temperature in the Quad Cities, we did break a daily record during Tuesday's Excessive Heat Warning. We also broke a record overnight, too.
That's right, we tied the warmest low record and broke the hottest high temperature for August 27th. We were only 13 degrees away from breaking the record for the hottest day on record.
Daily Record Broken For Warmest Low And High In The Quad Cities
It was a hot and humid day on August 27, 2024. An Excessive Heat Warning was issued from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and heat index values were between 110-115°. Not only was the dew point temperature high making the 'feels like' temperatures soar, but the air temperature itself was hot enough to set a record.
The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities confirms that the record high was set at the Quad Cities International Airport in Moline, Ill. on Tuesday.
Originally broken at 97° back in 1976, the 48-year-old record was finally broken was temperatures in Moline reached 98°. The record high wasn't the only thing that was broken.
The record low was broken/tied on Tuesday. Set back in 1983 at 75°, Tuesday's low almost didn't drop below 75° tying the record.
The hottest day on record in the Quad Cities was set way back in the day. On July 11, 1936, the high was 111°. Let's hope that never gets even close.
