Three Indiana Communities Make Top 5 ‘Best Small Cities’ to Live In

The list of Best Small Cities in America was recently released by WalletHub, and amazingly, Indiana performed exceptionally well! In fact, FIVE Indiana cities made the Top 30, and three made it into the Top 5!

Apparently, Indiana's the state to live in... assuming it's not Gary. (We'll get to them.)

WalletHub's annual list looks at nearly a third of the country's small cities and suburbs every year to find the best place for people to live. According to them, small-city life can be best for those who appreciate more wiggle room, fewer degrees of separation and shorter commutes.

Of course, not living in bigger city doesn't offer as many amenities, but the trade off, typically, is a more affordable way of life. For instance, the cost of living for a two-person, two-child family in Hanford, California, is about $6,517 per  month.

However, the same life would cost someone almost double that if they lived in San Francisco.

So Wallethub ranked the cities by percentile, with the 99th percentile representing the top 1 percent of small cities in America. And Indiana has Four small cities that rank in the 99th percentile, three of which are in the top 5.

Fishers, Westfield and Carmel, Indiana (all suburbs of Indianapolis) all placed in the Top 5 small cities to live in. they all placed VERY high on economic health and relatively well in Affordability and Quality of Life.

In fact, Carmel, Indiana had the best overall score of ANY small city to live in, with a total score of 71.16. Westfield came in at No. 4 with a score of 69.39, and Fishers at No. 5 with a score of 69.35.

Sadly, though, it wasn't all good news for Indiana, as one city scored in the bottom 1 percentile - Gary, Indiana.

The Economic health, and quality of life in particular held Gary down. In fact, Gary scored one of the worst Economic health scores in the entire list, lowering its total score to just 43.73.
