Back on the first day of January this year, several new laws went into effect here in the state of Illinois, just as they do every year on January 1st. Laws addressing things like:

  • Minimum Wage Increase: Illinois' statewide minimum wage increased to $15 per hour for workers aged 18 and older. The minimum wage for tipped workers also increased to $9 per hour.
  • Pay Transparency in Job Postings: Employers with 15 or more employees are now required to disclose pay scale and benefits info in all job postings to increase transparency in the hiring process.
  • Digital Driver's Licenses/IDs: Illinois residents now have the option to download a digital version of their driver's license or state ID to their phones using an app.
  • Landlord Retaliation Act: New protections for tenants against retaliation by landlords
  • Social Workers And Opioid Reversal Drugs: It's now legal for social workers to administer opioid reversal drugs like naloxone (brand name: Narcan) or nalmefene.

Now, the next round of new laws in Illinois go into effect on July 1st.

Here Are A Couple More New Illinois Laws You Can Look Forward To Seeing On July 1st

Ban on Single-Use Plastic Bottles in Hotels: Senate Bill 2960 (SB 29 60) bans hotels with 50 or more rooms from providing small single-use plastic bottles (under 6 ounces) for products such as shampoo, conditioner, or soap. The law is all about the effort to reduce plastic waste.

Gym Membership Cancellations (HB 4911): Allows gym membership cancellations to be made online if the membership was purchased online, and by email if an email address was provided in the gym membership contract.
