Sudden Emergency Recall of Apple Juice in Illinois Due to Arsenic
If you've picked up apple juice from an Illinois Walmart store recently, you need to check the label immediately as there's an emergency recall happening right now due to elevated levels of arsenic.
I saw this bulletin shared by Fox Business which says that Great Value apple juice which was widely-available in Illinois is now under urgent recall from the Food and Drug Administration. The report says that elevated levels of arsenic have been found in this apple juice.
The UPC code you need to look for is UPC of 0-78742-29655-5 with a best by date of December 28, 2024.
The World Health Organization says that too much arsenic can be toxic to humans causing cancer and skin lesions. Symptoms of arsenic poison if too much is ingested include vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. They go on to say other dangers include "developmental effects, diabetes, pulmonary disease and cardiovascular disease".
Check those labels and if you find you have the recalled apple juice in Illinois, return it to the Walmart you bought it from for a refund. Definitely do not ingest any if you find the UPC code shared above.
As this is a developing story, it will be updated if new information is provided.
