Illinois Grocery Chain Plans Enormous Expansion of 800 New Stores

If an Illinois grocery store chain has its way, Walmart will no longer be the biggest provider of groceries in America. They've announced an enormous expansion which will include over 800 new stores including reportedly many in Missouri and Illinois.

This bold announcement comes from Batavia, Illinois this week via a press release about what will eventually become one of if not the biggest grocery brand in America. Aldi says they plan to expand "their footprint" by more than 800 new stores by the year 2028.

Here's a quote from the Aldi CEO about why this is happening:

“Our growth is fueled by our customers, and they are asking for more ALDI stores in their neighborhoods nationwide,” said Jason Hart, CEO, ALDI. “

This will impact the middle of America specifically in a big way as Aldi says that at least 330 of these new grocery stores will be in the Midwest region and also the northeast.

This huge expansion won't just be new brick-and-mortar stores built from the ground up, but also a result of "the acquisition of Southeastern Grocers and its Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket", according to the press release.

Statista says there are 3,572 Walmart Super Centers in America. Vine Pair shared a map of current Aldi locations in each state as of this writing.

If this announced expansion of Aldi stores into even more parts of Missouri and Illinois and across America comes to fruition, they will be a real rival to the Walmart grocery store chains in the super centers.
