WOW – Special Double Sky Event Visible Over Illinois in September
If you enjoy pretty sky events, you might want to save a date in September as a double sky event will be visible over Illinois all year will happen then - with one caveat.
Earth/Sky has a great guide to the supermoons of 2024 and the one over Illinois in September should be the brightest of them all plus it will not be the only special sight in the sky that night. Save the date of September 18, 2024 as the moon that night will be a Super Harvest Moon.
That will be one of the brightest moons of 2024 that should be visible over Illinois, but there's something else happening that night which will make the September Harvest Super Moon extra special. The Super Moon that night will also be a partial lunar eclipse.
So what's the caveat? It's the clouds and weather in general. For the September 18, Harvest Super Moon and partial lunar eclipse to be visible, the clouds will have to cooperate. The good news is that September nights are notorious to have clear skies. Let's hope that's the case when the bright Super Moon is above us and then partially eclipsed. Two cool sky events in one night.
