600,000 in Illinois to Get Surprise Payouts by Mail
I was born suspicious so I'm glad there is official confirmation that this is not a scam. There are more than 600,000 in Illinois that will reportedly be getting money in the mail soon if not already and it's not a scam.
I just came across this wonderful (for some people anyway) story shared by ABC 7 in Chicago that someone dropped on the Illinois sub-Reddit. It's word from the Illinois State Treasurer that a surprise payout is on the way for hundreds of thousands in the state. It's all a part of the unclaimed property program in Illinois. The report says that in total the money sent out will exceed $45 million dollars.
How much money will I get and is there a way I can find out if money is coming?
I predict that most people will be surprised by an unexpected check in the mail in Illinois, but you can check to see if the state officially has something you are owed. You can enter your information in the Illinois State Treasurer's unclaimed property website and it will tell you if there are funds or property that the state has that are yours. The report from ABC 7 in Chicago says that most checks will be for at least $50 and you can cash it without worry.
Unclaimed money in Illinois can come from unpaid insurance claims, inheritance or forgotten checking accounts. You'd be surprised how many in Illinois have money owed to them and don't know it. Be aware that scammers know these checks are being sent out, so make sure to verify that the check really is from the state of Illinois and not a villain.
