Is identity theft a problem? Sure it is. Does a brand new ranking show that it's a bigger problem in Illinois than Missouri? Yes, Jim, it does.

WalletHub just dropped their new 2022 list for the states that are most vulnerable to identity theft. If you look at their interactive map, you'll see that Illinois is shown to be a place where you're more likely to have your identity lifted than Missouri.

The big question is why? According to WalletHub's methodology, they combined 14 different metrics covering 3 different spectrums including identity theft, fraud and policy. The one statistic that stood out to me as a key factor was Illinois being ranked #1 for "Identity-Theft Complaints per Capita". That means you're more likely to file a complaint about someone trying to steal who you are in Illinois than anywhere else. OK, so Illinois is tied for #1 with Rhode Island and Kansas, but you get the idea.

It's not all sunshine and roses for Missouri either. The Show Me State was rated as having the #3 worst identity theft policy in America. Don't laugh. Identity theft is not a joke, Jim.
