You could tell this driver in Chicago, Illinois was in trouble the moment power flashes happened to the left side of his vehicle and debris appeared right in front of him. Video shows what happened when he drove straight through a violent tornado.

This video appears to have been captured on Tuesday, July 16 on I-290 in Chicago. As he approached the Pauline Street/Ashland Boulevard exit, you can hear the tornado warning through his car radio. About 20 seconds in, you will see debris circulate on the ground in front of him.

Shortly after that, you can clearly see the vortex to the left of the roadway as the winds get more intense.

Here's another tornadic Illinois storm some captured video of from Mapleton:

WTTW is reporting that the Chicagoland area was hit by a confirmed 11 tornadoes over the past two days. My understanding is that storm damage survey teams from the National Weather Service are in the process of investigating damage and classifying the storms.

As this is a developing story, it will be updated once new confirmed information is released by the National Weather Service survey teams.
