According to research.com, and looking at the latest FBI crime statistics on violent and property crimes in places that include college towns.

Safest College Towns

#7 Lisle, Illinois home of Benedictine University the town's crime rate is at 0.7 and property crime rate at 4.6. The town is known also as one of the best places to live.
#12 Charleston, home of Eastern Illinois University, has a crime rate of 1.14 and a property crime rate of 2.9. With three police departments (a university, county, and city department), it's unsurprising that this town makes the list.
#13 Edwardsville home of Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville has a crime rate of 0.5 and a property crime rate of 7.4. The town is known for having large forests and parks.
#19 Elmhurst is home to Elmhurst University and also one of the best places to live in Illinois. The crime rate is 0.5 and the property crime rate is 9.5. The town is also a great place to raise a family.
#28 Wheaton is home to Wheaton College and other private and public elementary schools. The crime rate is 0.7 and the property crime rate is 11.8.
#42 Bourbonnais is the 6th of the 7th safest college towns on the list. Home to Olivet Nazarene University and has a crime rate of 1.8 and a property crime rate of 8.4.
#48 Romeoville is home to Lewis University known for its peaceful community and low crime rate. The town also has 600 businesses including Amazon and FedEx Ground. The crime rate is 1.5 and the property crime rate is 10.9.

So while many seniors are deciding on where to go in the fall, you might want to look at these colleges and the towns (which is just as important) when thinking about where to get your education.
