According to newschannel20.com, Springfield, Illinois has a brand new Helping Hands Homeless Shelter that will serve as a place to help the most vulnerable citizens in Sangamon County. The shelter, which just officially opened on January 4th, is there for emergency and transitional use. In the article, they say...

"The 24/7 shelter can house 140 individuals per night. The shelter is equipped with beds, kitchen services, laundry, and medical services...However, the location of the shelter raised concerns for residents last year about safety. Davis said although there are most likely still concerns, she is committed to showing residents that they are providing a solution for individuals who need housing...Sangamon County used $9 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund the project."

One of the other things mentioned in the article is that Helping Hands can now operate completely under one roof in this new facility, which is great for the organization that does a ton of good in their community. I would say this shelter is opening just in the nick of time with brutal cold temperatures impacting all of Illinois to start 2024.
