I am always so careful with my wallet when traveling or just going to the grocery store. However, there is one item that you should never carry with you and if you do you need to take it out immediately.

To avoid identity theft and to keep yourself and your personal information safe, the Feds highly recommend NOT to carry your social security card in your wallet. There is no reason to have this in your wallet. As long as you can remember your number there is no reason whatsoever to have your card in your wallet.

We encourage you not to carry your Social Security card with you every day. The best way to “Guard Your Card” is to keep it in a safe place and share it only when required, which is rare. In fact, in most cases, just knowing the Social Security number should be enough.

There is a great risk of you losing your card, and having it fall out when you go to grab another credit/debit card or cash. So to ensure that your identity remains safe just take this card out right away and put it somewhere in your house where it's safe and sound.

If someone would find your social security card it would be so easy to steal your identification, and as we head into the busy shopping season you don't want that to happen. Trust me it's not easy getting your ID back and takes weeks if not months to make it all go away.

Avoid the headache, just take the card out now.
