I tell you, if there's a way for Illinois to tax something, they'll figure out a way. I'm afraid to get a FitBit because pretty soon they'll tax you for how many heart beats you have!

A new bill, House Bill 5651, imposes a 2% surcharge on firearm ammunition. It would also create the Safe Schools and Learning Environments Grant Fund. The money would be used "by the State Board of Education to make grants as part of the Safe Schools and Healthy Learning Environments Grant Program" according to the bill. It doesn't really specify what that means though.

The Land of Taxes is looking to strike again. I worry taxes like these will send customers across state lines to purchase ammunition especially during hunting season and then Illinois misses out on that revenue. Can we chill on these taxes already, like I said, pretty soon they'll tax you just for being alive!
