If you live in Illinois, you get a lot of flack and jokes from friends and family members who live out of state. At least I do...Well, there is finally some good news about Illinois!

According to a newly released Gallup poll, a majority of Illinois residents give to charity.

Illinoisans ranked number seven in charitable giving compared to other states.

  • 70% gave money
  • 41% volunteered time
  • 37% contributed both time and money

The states that came out on the bottom were:

  • Nevada
  • Kentucky
  • New York
  • Mississippi
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • North Carolina
  • West Virginia
  • Rhode Island
  • Louisiana

On average, the percentage of people donating money and volunteering time was below 30% in these states

Coming off an incredible successful toy drive on Friday at Lou Bachrodt Automall, I can can tell you that giving is alive and well in the Rockford area.
