Here's why traffic is down to one lane on the South Hancock Avenue Bridge. FBI agents are helping the Freeport Police Department search the Pecatonica River for evidence relating to an unsolved 2013 homicide this afternoon. Here's what we know as of today. According to The JournalStandard.com, Police received information from a source which was shared with the FBI and the case is being investigated the remained of this week.

Seems the case being investigated is that of the of Walter Scott who died from multiple gunshot wounds in a residence in the 800 block of Chestnut Street in September of 2013. 

 

Divers from the FBI’s Underwater Search and Evidence Recovery Team based in Miami, along with another FBI agent from Los Angeles, are assisting with the investigation which is centered on the South Hancock Avenue bridge.

 

The Illinois State Police Crime Lab in Rockford is also helping with the investigation.

 

People are advised to stay clear of the area through the rest of the week.
